1. How does the physical environment of the story reflect its emotional atmosphere?

أوصفي الستنق: الجو كان بارد و الجبال و الهضاب و المنحدرات كانت مغطى بالثلوج و الزلاجات إلي كانو يستخدمونها و لبسهم للجاكيتات الطويلة و القفازات ( أدوات تستخدم فقط في الاماكن الباردة ) و كهف الثلج إللي جلست فيه بنتهم أني كلها تعكس المشاعر الباردة بين الزوجين.

3. Why does Anne’s mother believe the girl is better off with only one parent?

لأن أني ماكانت تشوف محبة بين والدينه و كانت أغلب الوقت تجلس لحالها أو مع بقية الاطفال بالفندق تقرأ لهم القصص.

Anne didn’t know how to ski. She stood at the foot of the slope watching her parents. They called to her, but she didn’t move, and after a while she began to shiver. Her mother went to her and tried to encourage her, but the child turned away crossly. “I don’t want you to show me,” she said. I want Daddy to show me.” Mrs. Hartley called her husband.


4. What is there in the story that foreshadows Anne’s accident?

The terminal posts of the tow looked like gibbets in the twilight, and Mr. Hartley and his daughter looked like figures of contrition and patience. Again and again they would circle the little rink, earnest and serious, as if he were explaining to her something more mysterious than a sport.

One evening when the Hartleys were playing bridge—it was quite late and Anne had gone to bed—the child began to call her father. “I’ll go, darling,” Mrs. Hartley said, and she excused herself and went upstairs. “I want my daddy,” those at the bridge table could hear the girl screaming. Mrs. Hartley quieted her and came downstairs again. “Anne had a nightmare,” she explained, and went on playing cards.

5. Give evidence from the story that Anne has suffered two types of death.

نوعين من الموت
1- الموت الحقيقي لما الحبل لف عليها و ضربها بالأرض و بدأت تصرخ بعدين رماها و انكسرت رقبتها و ماتت.
2- موت المشاعر لما كانت تجلس مع الأطفال و تقرأ لهم بدل ما تجلس مع أهلها
كمان لما كانت تحلم
كمان لما تركت المدرب و جلست بالكوخ و لما ابوها رجع و رمت نفسها بحضنه و قالت له أتوقعت مارح ترجع.
