Exercise ( 5)
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs identifies five levels of needs, which are best seen as a
hierarchy with the most basic need emerging first and the most advanced need last.
People move up the hierarchy one level at a time. Fulfilled needs lose their strength
and the next level of needs is activated. As basic or lower-level needs are satisfied,
higher-level needs become operative. A satisfied need is not a motivator. The most
powerful employee need is the one that has not been satisfied. Abraham Maslow first
presented the five-tier hierarchy in 1942 to a psychoanalytic society and published it
in 1954 in Motivation and Personality (New York: Harper and Row).
Identify whether the following sentences are true ( ) or false ( ).
1 The most basic need in Maslow's Hierarchy is safety.
2 Essentially, the highest need in Maslow's Hierarchy is Esteem.
3 Self actualization is the highest in Maslow's Hierarchy
4 Maslow's Hierarchy was first published in 1954.
5 Basically, people needs move in Maslow's Hierarchy from top to bottom.
6 A satisfied need in Maslow's Hierarchy is a motivator
7 When basic needs are fulfilled, higher-level needs become
effective.
8 Satisfied needs keep their strength and the next level of needs is activated.
9 The urgent employee need is the one that has not been satisfied.
10 Hierarchy of needs is a theory of motivation
