The Chariot "Because I Could Not Stop For Death

BECAUSE I could not stop for Death,
He kindly stopped for me;
The carriage held but just ourselves
And Immortality.

لأنني لم أستطع التوقف للموت
توقف هو برفق من أجلي
حملتنا العربة وحدنا لا يرافقنا
سوى الخلود .

We slowly drove, he knew no haste,
And I had put away
My labor, and my leisure too,
For his civility.

قدنا بتأنٍّ , لم يكن يهوى السرعة
أجّلت عملي ,
وتنازلت عن وقت فراغي ,
لأجل أدبه .

We passed the school where children played
At wrestling in a ring;
We passed the fields of gazing grain,
We passed the setting sun.

مررنا بمدرسة حيث أطفال يلعبون
للتو أنتهت دروسهم
بالحقول التي حدقت فينا حباتها
بالشمس التي أوشكت على المغيب

We paused before a house that seemed
A swelling of the ground;
The roof was scarcely visible,
The cornice but a mound.

توقفنا قبالة منزل بدا نافراً
عن سطح الأرض
يكاد سقفه أن يختفي
وإفريزه المحدب بدا كالتلة

Since then ’t is centuries; but each
Feels shorter than the day
I first surmised the horses’ heads
Were toward eternity.

منذ تلك اللحظة مرت قرون
لكننا أحسسنا وكأنه أقصر من يوم
وكما خمنت منذ البدء
كانت رؤوس الخيل تتجه نحو الأبدية .
