إجادة استخدام Punctuation Marks علامات الترقيم الانجليزية و نبدأ بــ
APOSTROPHES
تستخدم الفاصلة العليا فى هذه الحالات التالية :
الملكية
الاشارة الى الملكية عندما يتبعها الحرف
singular: man's role John's party
plural: men's role children's playground
نضع الفاصلة العليا فقط s اذا كانت الاسماء سواء مفردة أو جمع منتهية بحرف الجر
dogs' fur Aguilars' house*
boys' pants Joneses' cars
بالنسبة للضمائر غير المحددة indefinite pronouns فإنه من الممكن إضافة الفاصلة العليا لها
everyone's success one's leg
somebody's house anybody's home
ملاحظات :
1- تستخدم الفاصلة العليا + s مع الكائنات الحية و الاسخاص فقط
2- يستخدم حرف الجر of للتعبير عن الملكية مع الجمادات
Awkward: The chair's back was broken.
Improved: The back of the chair was broken.
3- عند تكوين الملكية تتالى حرفى s متتاليين ففى المثال التالى الاسطر الاول يعبر عن اجابة غير مناسبة أما الاخرى التى فى السطر الثانى فتعبر عن الاجابة الأصح
Awkward: conscience's sake
Improved: conscience' sake
Awkward: Claudins's feast
Improved: Claudins' feast
الاختصارات
فى الاختصارات يتم دمج كلمتين فى كلمة واحدة عن طريق حذف حرف او عدة حروف و استبدالها بالفاصلة العليا و لا تستخدم هذه الاختصارات فى الكتابة الاكاديمية

[التمرين الاول : بدل حرف الجر of بأستخدم s' للتعبير عن الملكية
