My Summary "THE CASK OF AMONTILLADO"


* The Character :

describe the character..



Fortunato : Round static character ..he is real and there is no changes in his personality.,,

he is a man from high class society.,self-centered, and a noble. he is not a bad or evil person.

also, he is rich and respected.,



Montresors : he is insane person , but not completely .. because he remembers the details of the events 50 years later..

also, he inhuman (( because he buried Fortunato a life ))

uncredible we can't believe him because he didn't prove that Furtinato is evil and never told us what happened between them.

((Insane people , fools , lairs or hypocrites.))

the theme stated directly in the first sentence.

Dominated by " revenge"

How the revenge take place ?



* Setting :

We can't find specific place for this story ..

because Montresor is French ,Fortunato is Italian , The Amontillado is Spanish ,Plazzo is Italian , the motto of Montresor's family is Spanish .. that's why we can't tell the setting for sure, nut we can set the story an any place pf those.,,

The time in the half of the century.,

هنا شرح لقصيدة Daystar قريب جدا من شرح مس اشواق


The narrator of the poem "Daystar" sets a tone that is burdensome, monotonous, ritualistic and depressing. The poem describes a woman's attempt to find rest from her daily duties as a mother and wife. She looks forward
to one hour of escape from her family's demands. Each day, while the children are napping, the woman sits alone behind the garage. During this hour of the day the woman can release the burdens placed on her and receive strength to continue meeting her family's needs.

The first and second stanzas of the poem give the impression that the woman is overwhelmed by motherhood. The diapers hanging on the line and the doll slumped behind the door indicate she has her hands full caring for an infant and toddler or young child. The phor of the doll slumped in the corner mirrors the woman's own weariness. Her mind is distracted with all the work to be done inside the house.

The woman finds a restful place behind the garage. Sitting behind the garage suggests the woman wants to be close enough to the house in case her family needs her. It shows she cares for them, but values her time away from them.

The third stanza describes the woman's ritual of clearing her mind. Simply being able to watch a cricket or a floating maple leaf is a peaceful escape for her. The term "she'd see only her own vivid blood" indicates an awareness of life flowing in her veins. Behind the garage she can still exist, but without effort or distraction in her world of nothingness.

In the fourth stanza, the woman's hour of peace and nothingness is interrupted by her child Liza who appears on the stairs pouting and demanding to know what her mother is doing. It seems to be a ritual for Liza to wake before the other children and retrieve mom from behind the garage. Liza does not understand why her mother would prefer to be "out back with the field mice" rather than inside taking care of the house. Her mother responds that she is "building a palace." This phrase indicates the woman treasures her break behind the garage and this sanctuary is her "palace" where she rules the kingdom. At all other times her children and husband have rule over her.

1- The four poems included are: London, The Ruined Maid, To a Daughter Leaving Home, and Daystar

2- The historical background is only relevant in "London" and "The Ruined Maid," but "Daystar" and" To a Daughter Leaving Home" are modern poems, so there is no relevance of the historical background to the poems. Therefore, don't worry about it.

3- Both "Daystar" and "To a Daughter Leaving Home" talk about motherhood. However, each poet treated the theme differently.

4- The difference between "How" and "Why" questions is the element that is being questioned. Don't dwell on the questions' structure just focus on the element(s) that is/are being asked about. As I said in class, this is an indirect way of asking about how ONE or MORE than one element contributes to the idea of the poem. Don't write an analysis of the whole poem if I'm asking about one thing. You will lose marks this way for just memorizing.

5- The poems will not be provided in the test. You are expected to look at every poem in terms of the six elements: STILTS. You must make sure to memorize examples to support each element.

6- We said to focus on the difference between Melia and the other girl in three main aspects: appearance (how they looked differently and why), characteristics (how their characters were different and why), and their speech (how they spoke differently and why). These three aspects make them different, but the poet uses "Pun" to compare their "Ruined" destinies.

7- If you remember when we used the graphic organizer to analyze "London," we said that the "Tone" is determined by the words that the poet uses. Therefore, look at the words the poet uses to elicit the poet's attitude towards his subject.

8- There will not be a question asking about the meaning of words in the poems. However, you are expected to know them in order to analyze the poems.

9- Remember to use correct punctuation, spelling, and grammar.

10- Use the present tense.

11- Provide examples to support your analyses.

12- Come on time. You will only have one hour to solve the quiz.

13- Eat something. Your brain cannot function on an empty stomach!

14- Relax. You already know the information; you just need to organize it into a coherent answer.
