Simple Past Tense

1- when we talk about things that happened in the
past, we use the simple past tense.
Last summer, l worked
on a farm.
2- To from the simple past tense for regular verbs:
a. add –ad to the base form of the verb.
want → wanted
talk → talked
b. lf the verb ends in e, add only –d.
Live→ lived
Arrive→ arrived
c. lf the verb ends in consonant +y, change the y to
i and then add –ad.
Study→ studied
Try →tried
play → played
3- Many verbs have irregular past tense forms.
.Here are some of these irregular verbs
Be → was/ were Get → got
Do → did Go → went
Have → had Make → made
Eat → ate Say → said
4- In negative statement, use didn’t ( did not ) +
base form of the verb, except with the verb be.
need → didn’t need
want → didn’t want
be → wasn’t / weren’t
